The Fast and Furious operation involved federal agents allowing criminals to buy guns with the intention of tracking them.
Instead, agents from the ATF lost track of 1,400 of the 2,000 guns involved in the sting operation.
The operation allowed criminals to buy guns in Phoenix-area shops with the intention of tracking them once they made their way into Mexico. The arrest of Sinaloa cartel head El Chapo uncovered a .50-caliber rifle. This weapon was traced directly to the Obama Administration’s Fast and Furious program.
When agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives checked serial numbers of the eight weapons found in his possession, they found one of the two .50-caliber weapons traced back to the ATF program, sources said. But the one rifle is only the tip of the iceberg.
Out of the roughly 2,000 weapons sold through Fast and Furious, 34 were .50-caliber rifles that can take down a helicopter, according to officials.Glenn reminds us that
…the purpose of [Fast and Furious] was to put weapons in Mexican gangsters’ hands that could be traced back to American sales, as a pretext for stricter gun regulations here. They were willing to accept increased deaths as collateral damage. The concept of increased deaths needs to be spelled out. Not only was the Obama Administration willing to accept increased deaths of Mexican citizens, but also American citizens. Fast and Furious was a part of a long-term plan—a strategic plan.

A nation-wide confiscation of firearms would free up street gangs like MS-13 and Mexican cartels to rampage and battle over turf. And let’s not forget that there are many Islamic groups in the USA which lie in wait. Here's one.
Such a confiscation would lead to nation-wide chaos and that is what it is intended to do. And who will the law-abiding—those left alive—look to for rescue? Government. Such a scenario is a perfect pretext for martial law. (Note the spelling of ‘martial.’)
Short-term thinking abounds. But the enemy thinks in the long-term. And I’m not talking about the puppeteers of the Obama Administration…well, not only them.
UPDATE: Just found out from Maetenloch at Ace's place that one of the terrorists at last year's Draw Muhammad contest in Texas also had a Fast and Furious weapon: a 9-mm pistol.
